演講者:Professor James Lai (華盛頓大學生物工程系)

Dr. James Lai is currently a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at University of Washington. He is also a fellow of Leaders In Future Trends, supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan.

He is trained as an engineer with emphasis in the field of nanomaterials for biomedical applications and has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from New York University – Tadon School of Engineering.

A major focus of his research is the development of molecular reagents for rapid, simple, and highly efficient biomolecule separation to improve diagnostic assays’ sensitivity, specificity, speed, and multiplexing capability.

Physicians can potentially utilize these rapid and informative clinical diagnostic tests to make proper medical decision and provide timely treatment.

Dr. Lai has extensive experience in collaborative and translational research and his research has been supported by National Institute of Health, Washington State Life Sciences Discovery Fund, Coulter Foundation, etc.

He is also interested in converting the technologies developed in research laboratories to potential clinical applications for patients.

He is a co-founder of Nexgenia, Inc., a biotech startup in Seattle that aims to commercialize stimuli-responsive polymer technologies from his group for biomedical applications such as in vitro diagnostics, immunotherapy, etc.

 

In order to make proper medical decision and provide timely treatment, physicians are relying on rapid and informative clinical diagnostic tests.
