National Tsing Hua University, a Top Research University of Hsin Chu, Taiwan and Thomson Reuters Asia Pte Ltd. Announce the Formation of the First Global Academy of Intellectual Property and Technology 

Hsinchu, January 17, 2014

          On January 17, 2014, the Institute of Law for Science and Technology (ILST) in the College of Technology Management of National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and Thomson Reuters Asia Pte Ltd (TR) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form the first Global Academy of Intellectual and Technology (hereafter refer to as “The Academy”.)

          The salient feature of the The Academy, according to the MoU, is

“…to establish a collaborating platform leveraging Thomson Reuters capabilities of contents and tools to support the initiatives of ILST in developing IP and Technology education programs and establish a joint “ILST-Thomson Reuters IP and Technology Academy” through different programs (on specific scopes) to develop IP and Technology capability across academy and industry….”

The Dean of the College of Technology Management, Professor Chao-His Huang, who represents NTHU to sign the MoU, said that “this is a ground breaking moment for NTHU’s College of Technology Management. Intellectual Property (IP) is the lifeline of technology and innovation of the 21^st century. We are extremely pleased that IP is defined as one of our College’s primary missions. Working with a world renowned company such as Thomson Reuters on this issue is indeed a great feather on our College’s cap!” 

Said Dr. Wong Woei Fuh, Managing Director of Intellectual Property & Science, ASEAN and North Asia, “IP is a tangible means of protecting an organization’s innovation and future revenue or wealth as well as increasing its key competitive advantage in a global market. At Thomson Reuters, we are pleased to collaborate with National Tsing Hua University and support their vision and initiatives of establishing a joint IP & Technology academy to develop Taiwan’s IP and legal education capability across academy and industry.”

According to Dr. Da Hsuan Feng, Senior Vice President of Global Strategy of NTHU, who exclaimed that “such an exciting endeavor from ILST absolutely fits the “bill” of NTHU global strategy renaissance. This is especially critical for NTHU’s aspiration to become a world class university, for Hsin Chu as a world class science and technology city, and for Taiwan (Republic of China) as a leading Asian entity in technological innovation.
